Potentilla anserina................................Back
(Silverweed)
This has adaptations to reduce water loss. Most obviously it possesses fine hairs all over the surface of its leaves. These keep a still layer of air next to the stomata and reduce transpiration losses. This is what gives the plant its silvery appearance. It has runners (horizontal stems that creep over the ground) that tangle up with other plants and help increase the surface stability of the ground. Its presence usually indicates that the ground floods from time to time.
